Omacor Capsules 1000mg
Omacor Capsules contains the active ingredients of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) ethyl esters. These substances are called omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Omacor has been shown to have a protective effect on the heart following a heart attack and lowers the levels of triglycerides (a fat-like substance) in the blood.
What is Omacor Capsules Used for?
- In combination with other medicines, for treatment after a heart attack to reduce the risk of further heart attacks and improve overall survival.
- To treat high levels of triglyceride in the blood of certain patients, but only after changes to the diet have been ineffective.
Omacor Capsule 1000mg is usually well tolerated but it may cause some side effects. In the list of possible side effects given below, we give an indication of how likely it is that you will get these side effects: ‘common’ means less than one in ten patients may experience this side effect; ‘uncommon’ means less than one in a hundred; ‘rarely’ means less than one in a thousand; and ‘very rarely’ means less than one in ten thousand patients.
Common – indigestion and nausea.
Uncommon – abdominal and stomach pain, allergic reactions, dizziness, taste impairment, diarrhoea and vomiting.
Rare – headache, acne, itchy rash, raised blood sugar, liver complaints.
Very rare – blood in your faeces, low blood pressure, dry nose, hives, blood changes. The soft gelatin capsules contain a small quantity of glycerol, which can be harmful in high doses. Glycerol can cause headache and stomach upsets and diarrhoea.
